Chris, a Shell station attendant, helped in the delivery. Strause asserts that the rumor surrounding her birth is false. Strause told Strause that her mother had car trouble and that she stopped at the station. She was in pre-labor while waiting in the station and the attendant helped her to a hospital. Strause was born at a hospital. Her mother wasn't aware that she was pregnant. Strause split with her biological dad who was half Japanese and half Spanish. Jeff is her stepfather. Chrishell Strause missed middle school for a full year because she was living in the shelter of a tent. Strause shared her memories of hiding her identity from her peers by recounting how she washed her hair in rivers and applying food stamps. Her parents "struggled with mental and addiction health" and she joined the Worldwide Church of God when she was 10 years old. Strause describes her mother as self-centered and self-righteous.
