Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964) is an American politician and attorney who is the 49th and current vice-president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female to be elected vice president and is also the highest-ranking female officer in American history. She is a senator and former US senator who represents California. Harris was born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris started her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then appointed by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. In 2010 Harris was elected Attorney General of California. She was reelected in 2014. From 2017 to 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris beat Loretta Martinez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the second African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, she was a vocal advocate for healthcare reform and federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a path towards citizenship for immigrants without a legal status, the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. She is best known for her sharp questions to Trump administration officials during Senate hearings.
